The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a total of 478 Grants, among which, the project “HeRiDe: Advancing HERItage Science procedures for DEpth-resolved risk condition assessment of wall paintings”, coordinated by Dr Antonina Chaban, researcher at CNR-INO.
The project aims at revolutionizing the study and conservation of frescoes by addressing one of the main challenges in their preservation: invisible damage hidden beneath the painted surface, often detectable only when it becomes severe and difficult to repair.
HeRiDe brings together conservation science and computer science expertise from CNR-INO in Florence and Pozzuoli, alongside restorers and art historians from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure.
